The TV series His & Hers has a cast that would get your attention anywhere — Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal playing an estranged detective and journalist who return separately to a hometown murder case that implicates both of them personally. The six-episode limited series is structured so that each of them is telling their version of events, which means the audience is always working with partial information and competing framings of the same facts.
The unreliable-narrator structure is well-suited to the mystery thriller format when it’s executed rigorously, and from what’s been previewed, the series seems committed to making that device do real work rather than using it as a gimmick.
