The TV series The Asset is a Scandinavian thriller — Danish production, cold and controlled in the way that genre tends to be — about a young intelligence operative sent undercover to get close to a smuggler’s partner and work her way into a criminal network. Clara Dessau carries most of it, and the series is smart enough to keep the focus on the psychological wear of the undercover work rather than over-relying on action to generate tension.
The complication, as it always is in this particular premise, is what happens when proximity to the target starts to feel like something other than strategy. The Asset doesn’t break new ground with that, but it handles the familiar mechanics with enough restraint and attention to character that it holds up across the season. For fans of The Bureau or similar European spy drama, this one is in that neighborhood. Streaming on Netflix.
