Love Con Revenge

The TV series Love Con Revenge has a clear procedural hook — romance scam victims, a private investigator, and Cecilie Fjellhøy (who you may know from The Tinder Swindler) working together to expose the people who defrauded them — but what makes the six-episode Netflix docuseries more interesting than its premise suggests is how it handles the emotional aftermath of being conned. The shame, the self-questioning, the difficulty of getting institutions to take financial fraud seriously when the victims are women who met someone online.

Fjellhøy’s presence is smart casting because she’s already lived the public side of this story and can speak to that dimension with credibility. The show doesn’t always achieve the depth it’s reaching for, and some episodes are stronger than others, but as a document of how romance fraud actually operates — and how little recourse victims typically have — it covers ground that doesn’t get enough sustained attention. Streaming on Netflix.
